283 Corvette Suffix Code

New Member here! I am looking for help identifying what I believe is a 1957 Corvette 283. Block casting is 3731548.
Head casting number 3731539. I believe that all points to 283 horse 283. Here is where I get confused.
The pad suffix code is F2IIP. I can find that suffix code anywhere. Can anybody help? Thanks

Welcome to the Forum, Sorry, not a Fuelie, the "P"suffix code is a 57-61 283 2bbl from a Chevy truck.

I thought the highest Corvette hp in 57 was the fuelie at 250 hp, but that was code FK. The only IP's I have seen have been 427's.

OK, so Feb 11, P code. 283-160hp truck according to the Lime Book listed in the stickies above.

539 heads were used mainly on 220 HP passenger car engines with 1 4bbl carburetor. Of course, they were also used on and can be used to replicate 283 HP FI engines if they are Flint castings.

Since the engine code says it was a truck engine, the 539 heads are not original to that block. Someone added them.
