I have read all the posts I can find on replacing the front springs on 1963-1967 Vettes. I like the procedure of removing the shock and using a threaded rod to pull the lower A arm up to remove the spring. Once the threaded rod is in place and tension applied I am not clear on which bolts to remove. I would assume it is the two lower A shaft to frame bolts. Is this correct?
I am also assuming that using this procedure I will not have to separate the ball joints. Correct?
Hunter - I use the threaded rod procedure to remove the springs. Insert the rod and leave @ an inch slack - and.place a floor jack under the lower a arm. Then take the upper ball joint nut off. Lower the jack so the lower arm drops that one inch - then add another inch of slack on the rod - repeat the process until you can safely take ths spring out- then take the lower control arm off.

I have a threaded rod but I just did my 64 using Lars method- loosen the spindle nuts and free the ball joints barely. Put a jack under the lca and get the car way up in the air. Take off the lower nut and gently (gently) lower the Jack down until the spring is slack.
if you have any reservations about this method don’t attempt it. The threaded rod only frustrated me, this was way easier. My replacement springs were shorter and went in much the same way.
