Default Steering Wheel

Has anyone used Freeman or any of the custom wheel builders to fabricate a teak wheel using the stock spokes for a C-1? If so I’d love to see pics. Trying to get an idea of how it would look in my ‘61.

I have one in my '61. Going off memory only, I recall Freeman making them for solid axle Vettes early on but stopped after a while. I happened to be at the right place at the right time (For Sale Forum) when another Forum Member posted this one for sale. I was the first of many to contact him. The wheel is 16-inches outside to outside and has well pronounced finger grips which work well on a non-power steering car like a stock Solid Axle. I'm going to be putting up my 61 for sale and am thinking of keeping this wheel and installing the stock wheel, just in case I get another further down the line.

I know, me too. Back in 2008 when I bought the '61 down in Austin, it had one of those smaller foam covered steering wheels. Early on it felt 'slippery' so I cleaned the hell out of it and...it still felt slick to the touch. I thought the smaller wheel would be nice to have although at 5'10" I didn't need a whole lot of additional leg/knee room but the soft foam just wasn't giving me the grip I wanted to I cut off the foam. That helped because underneath there were subdued finger grips that helped, a little bit. Then another Forum Member listed this wheel and I didn't waste any time contacting him. Love the look and the finger grips are as deep as the typical Freeman wheels for midyears.
