Default Casting Date Code

Flipped this pic right side up. BB date codes are upside down above freeze out plug on passenger side I believe. From a 66, Are the first sequence in a date code supposed to start with a corresponding letter for the month manufactured ? Then day, then the last of the year. Looks to me to be a 2. Any help.

So that would make sense. 9/23/65. I though that was I was just part of the raised stamp. Thanks.
