I have a 67 that the tach was working fine with a stock distributor the I had a stoker built with a tach drive distributor, now the tach is not working.
The extra brass piece supplied by MSD was put in
When you disconnect the cable from the back of the tach and leave it connected to the distributor and start the car you can see the cable turning. Then when you hook it back up to the back of the tach NOTHING.
As stated it worked fine prior to the engine swap and now nothing.
Two questions.
What is and where was the 'brass piece' installed and when you have the tach cable disconnected from the tach did you try to hold back on the cable. It could be the gears inside the distributor are making enough contact to spin the cable but when you hook up the tach they slip.

The Brass part is the little extension piece that is included with the distributor where the cable goes into the distributor. Have not tried the "hold back of the cable" part.
This is a brand new MSD distributor so there should not be any worn items.
Had this happen on a 71 many years ago when I replaced the distributor with a factory correct and newly rebuilt distributor.
The squared off part of the cable going into the tach was actually not quite as square as I thought. The cable was rotating OK in the old distributor, but the square was slipping when attached to the new tach drive distributor.
A new tach drive inner cable solved the problem

If your tach was working just fine before this switch, then more than likely it isn't your tach. If you unhooked the cable at the distributor and moderately attempt to spin the cable you should see at least a 500 rpm deflection on your gauge. If you don't see any deflection doing this then you need to move forward towards the tach. If deflection, then move to the distributor side.
