Default Removing clock glass

I need to replace the glass on my ‘64 clock. I’ve broken the clock down and wondering what the trick is to separate the 2 pieces of the housing to get to the glass itself? Do I need to grind off the top of the posts?

Yes, you do have to grind off the tops of those posts. You might consider grinding them flat and drilling holes for #2-56 self tapping screws to lock the retaining ring back in place. Those are the same screws that come with gas door emblem replacement kits.

Wonder if anyone had any success with some type of adhesive approach, just seems like awfully small posts to drill and tap for screws.

Epoxy works, just don't get carried away with it.

Chrome **** still good. Any idea what the ring is made out of...aluminum, metal, pot metal? If you’d epoxy it, you’d epoxy over the holes to the remaking bits of the studs, but could also put a dab of epoxy of the ring to the metal casing as well?

I think the bezel (outer clock case ring) is pot metal like the gauge cluster. The lens retainer is stamped steel. I had my clock rebuilt by Corvette Central. The bezel popped off after about 5 years. They used some kind of friction clip to grip to what was left of the posts. I tried epoxy and it broke a few times. The screws seemed to solve it permanently. Yes it's small but it can be done.

Just a thought here....but I have had success using Permatex silicone sealant/adhesive, for many little projects. I get it at Ace Hardware in a tube (like a toothpaste tube). Make sure you get the one that says sealant and adhesive.

Its great for mounting things on walls,( Like light pictures in my motorhome) and various other minor repairs etc. A little dab of that on those studs after you reassemble, and let it cure overnight will not only hold it, but insulate it from vibration.
