Inspection mark
I'm doing a clean up / rebuild on a 67 rear end, and while cleaning one of the half shafts, I uncovered a green inspection mark. It amazes me how long these things can last, but it was covered up with road dirt and black paint from previous owners. I drew a line where it was originally dabbed, and then it ran down the shaft to the green that's left. Its about 3/8 in diameter.
Big-block half-shafts were shot-peened, and marked with a lime green paint swipe so they could be identified for the BB application. Photo below shows an unrestored original BB half-shaft with the lime green paint swipe still visible.

So small block 1/2 shafts shouldn’t have green marks? I’m redoing my rear and mine currently have the green marks.
