[C2] Need assistance in finding info on 63 Coup
#21
Thanks for the additional methods for trying to obtain documentation. Based on suggestions from previous posts, I now know who the original purchaser is. My approach now is to try to find put who he may have sold his '63 to. Since he raced mostly in the Formula Jr. and CM classes, the '63 was raced very little. His last surviving pit crew member has contacted me about the car. All of his corvettes that he raced where probably sold from late '65 to late '66 as they where no longer around when the guy returned from Vietnam. I am now going to try to contact a race historian and see what they may know or try to contact racers from that era that are still alive. The on-line SCCA data is pretty devoid of details as it usually will not list all the races or cars (128 cars raced, but only 6 are listed on-line). I will then have enough info to go after the more detailed documentation. I believe at this time he would have sold his corvettes within the racing community. The Reno data may be harder to find although I have an ad with a phone number that lists a '63 Coup with a new paint job for the same price the new owner paid. Have been unable to locate a phone book from '72. It has been really interesting talking to the former owners and people that where associated with the car. Eventually I will be able to write up it's history.

Emccomas,
My research has been to start at the 1,000 foot level to find out where I needed to concentrate my efforts. From 1972 on, I have been able to talk to the owners about what they did to the car. I have been able to talk to someone with first hand knowledge about the vette when it was delivered - I got very lucky on this one. The original owner has passed on. Out of respect, I have not contacted the immediate family until I feel it is appropriate. This is a general form that can be accessed by anyone. I will not include the name of a living person until I get permission to use their name in seeking future information about the vette’s early life. If I talk to a racing historian, they will already know. While this will prolong my effort in the very short term, it is the way I feel comfortable in preceding. The second method is to have someone who restores ‘63 vettes to go through and physically document what is there down to the numbers on the parts. Thanks to everyone who is helping me.

I want to hear how you found it
Never ceases to amaze me that there ARE barn finds after this many years of people running all over the planet trying to find these things.
The mere fact YOU found it and how is worth a listen if you'll tell the story?
I am sooooo totally envious my hair has turned green

TC233,
For sure I am going to write up a brief history once I find out it's life from around '66 to '72 even if it is at the 1000 foot level. I actually was the barn in this case. I bought the vette in 1980 when my brother told me of someone that had a '63 SWC that he was going to turn into a hot rod after blowing up the engine. He had started the process. My brother and I thought it was a travesty that someone would do this. That is the only reason I purchased it - was to save it from that fate and the fact I fully intended to work on it. But raising kids, putting them through college, and playing and coaching volleyball for 47 years got in the way. How I found the original owner had a lot of luck to it and will be included in the story.
Just noticed you where from Lethbridge. Do you know a Beth and Rob Roerick?
