Am attempting to straighten all the staples on a fan shroud to install a new lower seal.
I lay the piece of tar paper equivalent that I was charged a fortune for (NOS) and one longer edge is rounded and the other straight
The shorter edges, one is cut square the other at an angle. and, of course depending how you flip it you can put any edge anywhere you want.
So before looking at the AIM it would appear the more rounded longer edge fits perfectly into the drop for the fan blade perfectly, so thought I had the orientation
Then I go to the AIM and it "appears" the rounded edge actually protrudes toward the engine and not as I suspected. So before I perforate my fingettips with 57 year old staples, I want to be sure I am perforating the correct edge
AIM shows on page 171 ITEM 7- the "roundy edge protruding toward the car engine....is that correct or a poor artist did this drawing
I just put a new rubber on my shroud and the old one was stapled on the curved edge. The straight edge pointing towards the engine. The rubber l have was for 63-65 cars and mine is a 64.I don't know if the rubber was original or not.Hope that helps.

I've got mine off right now as I'm going through the engine compartment. I think it's correct. It's a '65 L76 (365HP). Let me know and I can take lots of detailed pictures for you.
I checked lics website and they say the curved side towards the motor and the angled end goes to the right side, that being the passenger side. So looks like mine is installed backwards but it seals well.

Thats what I figured. I actually figured on at least 4 things, "the four ways to put this on"
I kept looking at the picture above and decided to staple the straight edge and as it turned out, the angle edge actually follows the line of the shroud sort of so it just worked out thats the way I put it.
Also cheated, went to a buddies this morning and looked at his 63 vert and his is staples straight edge and angle cut on passenger side...soooooooooo

I went with straight edge, only because a friend has a 63 vert that has never been touched (he is a car collector) and staples on straight edge and angle cut is on passenger side as one other member mentioned. So 3 of us could be wrong
It does go against logic. Logic says they created the rounded edge so that when it is dropped and stapled into the bottom edges of the shroud its just extending the straight edge? But when I stapled the straight edge the rounded side cupped upward funneling the side extensions and the bottom of the shroud to focus on the fan? So I am sure there are at least 43 NCRS changes and revisions on this one
One sounds logically, the other way looks correct after installation
Interesting, just found out that NCRS threads are debating this and its become a concensus, but not a rule that the straight edge faces the engine. Yet, just talked to another guy in FB and he has a 50K
63 Vert and he has had it for 40 years and his is, round side out. So I wonder if this is Jack the Lower seal Stapler doing whatever he figured would work that day and likely saying to himself.... "this will drive enthusiasts nuts in 50 years So he just kept flipping them
