Who me ???

When my dash clock was being restored and I still wanted to go to car shows I stuck a fender emblem in a Tupperware container lid that I painted red in the clock cavity and was just fine with it - and nobody ever said a word about it...

Was that wrong of me ? "George Costanza"

OK. Lets not get too carried away, I've used coat hanger and various types of wire to hold things up in a pinch....mostly mufflers/exhaust pipes and once to hold a driver's door closed....another time a front bumper...

My Dad used to trade in some real gems in the 60's...

When I was car pooling in college, I had a 59 Edsel (yes, I know) that the tail lights went out all of a sudden. My turn to drive so Dad had a bunch of flashlights so I stuck one in each of four holes and switched them on. Turned them off when I got there.

I used a lot of muffler tape once or twice to pass the Florida car inspection on my TR6 years ago.

Yeah, same here, but I didn’t know about muffler tape. I worked in a bond shop so got a piece of very thin stainless steel, wrapped it around the exhaust leak, then wrapped fiberglass prepregged with a high temp phenolic resin around that. Let the exhaust heat cure it. Lasted about two months before the resin cooked away.

(Disclaimer - the people in each case asked for the cheapest temporary fix we could do, just to keep it from dragging and from making a racket. They were told emphatically it was NOT going to last long.)

Are you sure it wasn't worked on at Bubba's Muffler and Brake?

They used to make something called Muffler Patch (which I don't see anymore), you could slather it on a holed muffler and let it set up and it would last (for a while) but rusty mufflers will soon develop more holes and after a while you had more "patch" than muffler...

I still use pop cans to remove C2 caliper run-out.

Frankie, did you remember to "burp" the Tupperware?
