Hello!
The ol' 66 BB is getting side pipes put back on her this winter and I have searched/looked at the old GM manuals and am slightly confused.....
Do the side pipe covers screw over or go under the rocker molding retainers?? Or do you even need the retainers??
Thanks for the help!

The retainers where not on real side pipe cars. You can either cut them off or bend them out of the way
I know. My car does not have those brackets (previous owner welded one on to install the under car exhaust molding) . Im talking about the long strip that screws under door.

Yes, you need the thin support bracket attached to the body to hold the rocker molding above the side pipe covers. Side pipe cars had notches cut in the body with body buts that were used to attach the molding and the covers.
I don’t usually like body mods on C2s, but yours actually look pretty good, thought the jury is still out on the holes in the hood and headlight panel... What color is that, candy apple red?

Yes. Its a candy red. The vents in the hood and trunk area are actually the vents off the fenders. She was built like that in the 60s/70s and was a drag car most of its life.

Makes more sense now. Anyone have any pics?
Thanks for the help. Its much appreciated.
After your OE style side exhaust are mounted under the car and along the underside of the doorframe, next you attach the side exhaust covers to the body of the car by screws and the funky front cover brackets at the curved portion of the cover. The last piece to install is the long strip you are referring to. In addition to two screws (one at each end) holding it in place, a long lip on the inner portion of the long strip snaps down into narrow channel of what the AIM refers to as the "product retainer" not visible after the strip is in place. It is a PITA to get the molding piece to snap down into the "product retainer" before putting the screw on each end. This is what I recall from reinstalling my OE side exhaust early last year.
There are two pictures/diagrams in the 67 Assembly Manual (AIM) on pages G430 and G431 which may help you a bit. Good Luck with it. C.J.
