Trying to install firewall insulation. Placed temporary screwdriver into hole below fuse block to locate insulation. Other holes are not even close to lining up. Any suggestions?
Just went though this with dads 65. The areas where it’s visible we made line up. The other areas that are hard to see we had to tare the pad to make work. Not the best solution But it works
I cannot move the firewall insulation left or right. It's up against the pedal box tightly on both sides. The 2 holes to the left of the pedal box line up ok. The three to the right are way off, and i can't even tear the pad, then make my own holes since they don't reach.
Short of drilling holes in the firewall and plugging the other ones, or gluing the pad in place on the left side, I'm at a loss for any other solution. Although the original firewall insulation was cracked and the insulation had deteriorated, all the plugs were in place.
After paying $250, you would hope they would be an perfect fit, that or the factory drilled them wrong. I'm going with the aftermarket part being done poorly. Unfortunately, won't be the first or last time.
I had the same problem with mine, but I wasn't concerned as I had already filled in the holes in the firewall. Those rubber plugs are a pain, especially when they don't line up. I used some fiberglass bonding adhesive and attached 'projection weld screws' to the firewall and secured the insulation with speed nuts.
Testing on a scrap piece of fiberglass. They aren't gonna come off.
The cost of that insulation put me off from buying it, good thing now that I learn there are fitment problems. I have a 64 with firewall insulation that was pretty shot. I pieced it back together and cosmetically finished the face, it is not usable as is but will serve as a template to make a fiberglass mold, then make a fiberglass copy, attach the insulation to the back and have it fit. I have the fiberglass material leftover from repairs so why not? Hope you get yours attached properly. Can you return it? Not saying this source has a fit that would would be any better but these insulators are made from ABS https://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb...Z5Z5Z50000062x
