Default left vent cable

After much project creep, I have finally finished replacing the clutch assembly in my 65 . As I adjust the free play I am noticing that the clutch pedal does not return all the way. It's hanging up on the left vent cable. Not badly, but enough so that there is very slight pressure on the release bearing. The cable is properly mounted, and has the proper clip. As I start to unscrew the cable mounting screws, the cable starts to lower to the point of no contact with the clutch pedal. It seems that the angle of the cable mounting bracket is incorrect. Has anyone dealt with this problem before ? I don't want to try bending the pot metal bracket. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

that bracket on both my 65 and 64 is bent inboard pointing toward the gas pedal. I'm not telling you to try to bend your bracket. But someone bent both of mine, and they did not break.

At a replacement cost of $20 , I might be tempted to bend. But at the amount they want for a reproduction cable, it's not gonna happen. I have never had good luck with bending pot metal. There has to be an acceptable solution to this problem.
Thanks for the response.

I went out and looked and took a couple pics. The bend looks pretty easy, as it is in the "flat arm" of the bracket. And on my 64, the handle aims toward the brake pedal, not the gas pedal, so it is not that severe. The cable is just kissing the clutch pedal arm. In my pics, the pull on the left is my coupe cabin fan control.

Thanks for the pics. I compared the angle of the mounting bracket arm to the **** in your pictures to my vent cable. Yours has a noticeable angle towards the brake pedal, whereas mine was straight. You were right ! I unscrewed the cable bracket and slightly bent the bracket arm to copy the same angle as yours. Now the cable just barely makes contact with the clutch arm. Overall a success ! What a crappy design ! Once again, A picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks again for your quick response. What would we do without this forum ?
