I am considering re-finishing my originals as nearly all of the black paint is gone. I know there are many threads here about how to re-finish. I will decide which works best for me. My concern is the actual removal of them. I can see all of the nuts under the hood to remove, etc but does the factory adhesive want to hold them to the hood? If it does, what is the best process known to not bend the sheets separating them from the hood? Thanks- lib
a) just barely applied (usually in a figure 8) with just enough to hold the center of the sheet down, and,
b) pretty dried up and prob ready to separate if it hasn't already..
Just take the fasteners off then carefully start lifting from the rear of the sheet, it most likely will lift right off, if not, a little coaxing with a Bondo spreader under the sheet should do it...
If a sheet is REALLY stuck then shooting some Goo-Gone under the sheet and letting it sit a while should do the trick...

On my first 63, the cookie sheets metal was nice and not scratched, and I just keep them on the car, masked it all off 1/8” pinstripe tape, taped and papered the hood, and simply rattle-canned Krylon Semi-Flat. Came out well. Good luck with your project.
