Any filter with meaningful filtering capability would be an impediment to cooling system flow, therefore bad. So either it's of no value in filtering or it screws up your engineered cooling system's heat balance.
I would also have to ask just what particles would need to be filtered out of a coolant system? A properly maintained and functioning cooling system would not require filtration. If there is a contaminant in need of filtering, I would advise finding and fixing the cause.
I would be leery of anyone selling what smells like a snake oil sales pitch. It's about them lining their pockets with your money selling you something no one needs. Anybody remember the Tornado Vortex Generator? That guy made a fortune selling crappy-assed tin cans with fins that people stuck into their intakes and believed that their cars performed better.

I think they're on some HD diesel engines that power 18-wheelers, construction equipment, etc, but have never heard of them as OE on light duty engines.

After 18 years of engine development, mainly diesels, I've never seen one.
I don't know what is being filtered and judging by the size of the mesh in the screen part in the pictures above...anything trapped would have to be the size of a chick pea... I doubt it would even catch system rust....
That filter looks very similar to what my Polaris pool cleaner has inline. If your thinking you have scaling or rust look to flush your system and use a product like Thermocure. Then refill fill with a low or no silicate coolant.

Looked like a sink drain strainer to me - seriously, tt's borderline silly...

But perhaps Gordon asked the question that the OP didn't state. While cooling systems have, by design, margin which provides for adequate cooling in service over time, perhaps the OP has a problem with particulate buildup from scaling rust or boiler scale from ignored cooling system maintenance over decades. We've all seen some seriously funky-looking sludge come out of older blocks, including that primordial slime that can come out of the lower drain plugs.
If so, I'm with Gordon's thoughts on using an appropriate cooling system cleaner in an attempt to solve the problem, not a filter. That or pull the engine, strip the block and have it tanked by a professional machine shop. Or use an off the shelf product to flush the coolant system. In the distant past I have used a major manufacturer's cooling system cleaner which largely consisted of Morpholinium (C4H9NOH, IIRC), a weak base, to assist in breaking down cooling system sludge.
