Default Another 63 split restoration by Chip

Hi this will be my first attempt to introduce myself to the forum . My nickname Chip so you can call me what you want just don't call me late for dinner. My brides name is Helena so that's how it came up ID .I started liking corvettes a long time ago and it may have tuned into an obsession . In 1975 i started to look for my first one wanted a 1965 coupe could not find one i could afford , but spotted a 63 that was yellow in a carport in town . Stopped to ask if it was for sale answer was no the balancer won't stay tight . As i walked away i noticed FI badges , i tried several times to buy the car no deal. About 6 months later at a local cruse spot a silver 63 rolls thru with new paint car pulls onto the street revs the engine for a big burnout {BANG] balancer fly's across the street .AAAAh i know this guy . I pick up the pieces take them over to him as he was kicking the car and i said you want to sell that thing now he turned toward me it was a different person . He said i just got done Painting it , almost got punched so i asked if it was the same car yes he said ,so i don't sell cars but we can trade . I own that 68 Elcamino how about it? one short ride deal done . My first Corvette LOVE it After some major repair work i drag raced the 63 for years and parked it because track rules required full roll cage and fire system to go quicker than 12.000 quarter and the law was getting to know me to well on the streets. After much research threw NCRS i have learned that the car was shipped to a Texas dealer on Febuary 15 1963 also it was fuelie was daytona blue . I will attempt to post some pics taken recently when i took it outside for a bath a full body off restoration will begin soon. Second vette brand new 1977 black on black L82 4speed gymkana suspension sold 1982 . Big mistake great driver . Third vette 1965 roadster match numbers 365 327 restored it 1981 pearl silver on silver/ black beautiful Helena's car also sold 1982 . BigBigBig mistake. Forth vette 1984 z51 big brakes 4+3 very fast car autocross or on a twisty road worst ride ever built , black on black sold 1988 glad to see it go . Fifth vette 1995 blown head gaskets LT1 6 speed white on gray repaired and sold 2017 .

I'd say your first attempt at introduction was a success. There is a full plate of information in that post. Was all the FI equipment with it when you bought the 63?
Where is Monte Washington? Did you join NCRS in 1975?

That is a cool story. I don’t quite get the whole balancer thing though. Does it still have the original engine?

Looks like a great car and a story to boot! I am looking forward to the engine status and what you intend to do with the car.

Welcome to The Forum.
As stated, we love pics, especially of restorations.

Stay positive during the restoration process. It can be daunting at times.
My own car was in storage for 40 years as life went on.
Happy to say she is completely restored as of a year ago.

Good Luck

Well yesterday I wrote a reply to answer question and say thank you for welcome to the forum . Then when posting pictures made a mistake and deleted my written stuff you see I am Computer I Literate so I will try again . For 65 hi HP Monte WA. is short for Montesano Washington we are about 30 miles East of the Ocean Beaches. The fuel Injection was not with the car the emblems that were on the car when I first looked at it had been removed holes filled and painted over . I asked about them when we made the Trade Sonney ( owners name) LOL gave me a bag full of broken pieces and said that car was never fuel Injected . Remember I was 17 didn't care then I found other part's like exhaust manifolds Injection only ,oil pressure line for the distributor blocked off with a home made cap and throttle linkage to short for carburetor cobbled together with ready rod .Yes I kept all that stuff but doubted that the car was fuel injected originally because it did not have the correct radiator support more on that subject later .I will say this if not for joining NCRS probable wouldn't ever have learned this. I do have an injector and air cleaner for it now SPECIAL THANKS GARY . Vettspliit 63 the dealer was Doran Chevrolet in Dallas Texas sold to Auto Nation Chev sold to Bankston Chev believe it or not I found a person who worked at all three places , told me when Doran sold he help'ed throw all old files in dumpster's . hcallaway not the original, engine block and heads cast in 1965 block was decked twice no numbers on stamp pad I do have a correct date code block cast A 2 3 and will be rebuilt in my shop. 509 RAT rear fender flares were done long before I got the car they worked well when I ran slicks at the track . You have asked the 20 thousand dollar question two ways to go here ,NCRS stock quarters replaced orrrrr, kind of a retro road racer vibe flares stay .OK forum members give me input hear.

Unless you have original sales documentation or the original engine, it can be whatever you want it to be, but you can't say with any certainty that it is an original fuelie car. It will be worth more to build as a fuelie, but it will also be an expensive build.

In addition to the fender holes, (which a lot of cars wound up with FI badges that weren't, ) there should be the mounting holes on the driver's side inner fender panel. for the FI air cleaner. most people wouldn't have gone to the trouble to do that... Also if you have an original non FI radiator support, I'm betting it was a 340 horse car as built.......

Since it's not matching numbers and you suggested possibly going with the road race look I think that is a great idea but IMCO I think it would look much better with stock rear 1/4s. Take a look at the '63 road racers. You don't really see those cars flared except for the Grand Sports ("google images" 1963 Corvette Z06). Some have the lips cut or are slightly opened up a bit. Most just have the front and/or rear bumpers removed. Some have the front fender vents opened up but that's about it. Either way your car build it your way. Good luck going forward.
