Default Engine Bay Numbers?

Soda blasted the engine bay of my 58 and found "42" written on the driver side inner fender.

I have heard of writing in other parts of the car, but I haven't heard of markings in the engine bay.

Any ideas of what the 42 means?

Life, the Universe and Everything.

Seriously. It’s the daily job number I’m betting.

And I think they were all 3 digits, I think you have 412 there.

looking at it again.... I think you are right about it being "412"

Job # makes sense.

Some people list their job number on the C1 registry:

https://www.c1registry.com/index.php

Mine is 327, found it where you did, plus on the inside of the doors under the door panels.

sequence number or job number
you may see it on the drivers and passenger door posts or on the inside of the door shells
or on the firewall side of the drivers toe board
normally in green grease pencil

After seeing the replies about the job # possibly being on the doors and/or kick panel areas .... I took another look today.

I found "412" faintly written on the passenger kick panel area.

It's hard to see in the photo.
