While checking my suspension on my 60 Vette I notice my Upper Control Arm Bumper Stops are not looking very good. Does anyone know if I can replace them without removing the Upper Control Arm Bushing? That is the bushing where you adjust the Caster & Camber. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, John
I cannot imagine doing this without removing the coil spring tension (very safely) and removing something so that you can reasonably access the upper bumper. Of course there are wizards like Tom Parsons or someone else that will say "simple, here is all you have to do". I barely got those rubber bumpers to go in with complete access during a total rebuild. At least my reply might keep your post closer to the top so the experts find it.
grease up the nipple/retainers on the new ones, place them in position and unload each side of the front suspension one side at a time (slowly) until the upper control arms pushes the tit thru the cross member hole.

Doug, Do I need to disconnect any of the suspension to perform this task? My initial thought was to remove the Stabilizer Link from the Stabilizer Bar and then compress the suspension with a floor jack under the Lower Control Arm. Will that provide enough clearance to remove the old stop and insert the new one? John
You can disconnect the stabilizer link, it will let the suspension unload farther to press the new bumper into place. PS: watch your fingers during suspension unloading.

The top bumpers are a press-in fit while the bottoms are held in with hardware - nuts and such. I had my upper A arm off and easily could remove and install the bumpers. Take the tire off and drop the stabilizer bolt(s) and you will have enough clearance to remove/replace. As mentioned grease up the tit first... Al
I installed them today. Didn't need to remove the stabilizer link as I had enough clearance to get them lined up. I used polyurethane grease on the tit and lowered the vehicle while supporting it by the frame. They pushed right in. I want to thank all of you for your support.
