Default Body kit

I found this C1 body for cheap to my knowledge and it is just the fiberglass parts not together but I do not know how much it cost to have someone assemble it, does anyone know an estimated cost to put one together?

Are you talking about a real GM produced body parts or a kit car. Either way your better off to buy a complete car

Welcome to the forum, we all share the love you have for Corvettes!

That said, there is no possible way to give any estimate at all without MANY more details, and pics of what you have. There is WAY more involved than just putting a body together.

One bit of advice I will offer you - there is NO cheap easy Corvette. You can pay the higher dollars for one ready to go, or you can pay less for a project car and then spend at least as much more money putting it together so you will wind up paying as much, or more than the driver quality. Some of us like the challenge of a "mission impossible" putting a car together, just like some people enjoy a jigsaw puzzle - and that's fine, I'm doing that and having fun. Just DON'T think you're not going to spend as much money because it doesn't work that way.

Show us pics of what you might buy and we will tell you our thoughts - which may or may not be what you are hoping to hear.

That looks to be the kit Corvette Central sold years ago. You have a very expensive up hill battle to complete. And once your done your have way more in it then it will ever be worth. All the trim and little odd ball stuff will add up so fast it will make your head spin. Not to mention your have a state issued vin for a kit car. Unless your building a vintage race car I would forget about.

As railroad man said there really is no cheap way out of buying one. Unless your gifted one or steal one from a little old lady widow. Pay more now and save your self a headache. Or spend less and cause your self years of headaches

That's a fair price for a body. BUT notice there's no floor, firewall, trunk, inner fenders, etc. A windshield frame alone costs about $3500. Nah, I like projects but that would be nuts.
OOPS, I didn't look at all the pics. but still a HUGE project.

The only way to get a Corvette cheap is to have it willed to you. And even then it's not guaranteed to be cheap.

In and of itself that body kit isn't bad. I'll leave it to others here to say whether the price is realistic. But then you will need a chassis. Not just the frame, but the suspension and all that it involves - springs, bushings, bolts, bearings. Brakes, lines, cylinders. A motor. tranny, rear end, drive shaft. Oh yeah, wiring kit, you can figure roughly a grand there. Glass, radiator, seats, tires. there is SO much stuff I'm not even mentioning.

Again, if you have the time and money it can be a lot of fun to build something from almost nothing. Arnold in Sweden is rebuilding a '59 which was burned up. Several of us here in the states are bringing back to life barn finds which were in varying states of decay. It IS fun and it IS rewarding. I know nothing about you - if you have basic mechanical skills, a shop to work in, time to enjoy the hobby and a wallet which can stand repeated assaults as you go along, the "project" Corvette will teach you so much about how things are put together and what makes them go. Some guys start with a piece of crap, bring it to perfection - then sell it and start over with another piece of crap. But for every way you can find to save a few bucks off the total cost, something else WILL pop up to eat up those few bucks you saved, and more with it. That's just reality. There have been many guys who start out and then are unable to stay with it.

If you can't go for it, you are welcome to hang around and learn and drool. Not everyone on here owns a Vette at the moment and it's not a requirement.

Railroadman all those people you mention are using Gm made bodies with real vin tags. Big difference in price when complete compared to a kit car. And how parts fit And talking about being willed I have four mid years for me. The cost of a building and maintenance scares me

I agree, Keith, I'm just giving him food for thought. We've been through the discussion before that not everybody evaluates a project car in terms of profit. I will have more money into my '64 than I'd ever be able to sell it for. Ditto the '66 truck I have. But I justify the cost by saying money spent on a hobby isn't viewed as a business - model trains, telescopes, gardening, kayaking - it's not the money that's the object. A musician is a guy who will load $5,000 worth of gear into a $1500 car and drive 70 miles to play a gig that pays $50.

Losing money on a car project isn't necessarily bad, as long as you know going in that's what's going to happen.

I look at doing a long term project is a loan to your self. You pay little as you can over the years it took you to complete. I feel lucky as all the cars dad and I did we came out ahead. It’s all on what you start with and what you can do. But this car in question is not for the first time hobby guy. This is more of a expert level type of guy.

I have a 59 aftermarket body here - and all I can say is RUN
RUN AWAY
RUN Fast
Bodies are way too thick
Parts do not fit
lots of short cuts taken - missing bonding strips
Panels dont line up
LOTS AND LOTS of fab work / cutting / fitting / filling gaps where parts dont fit.
RUN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!
I wouldnt take one if you gave it to me - I would make it yard art......or a drag car

I have always told people not to buy any car as an investment, buy it because you want the car, if it increases in value that is great. If it is a loss but you loved the car, then you aren't really out at all. Some cars I made money on, most not. Wish I had them all back. Follow the advice of the others, buy the best condition car you can afford. No matter what happens you will save money and be driving sooner.
