Default Hood alignment

This last winter I removed the hood, hinges, and latches in order to do some detailing under the hood of my 66. Are there any special procedures for installing the hood and getting all of the gaps correct? I have installed lots of hoods on other cars, but never on a C2.

Did you mark the hood where the hinges attach? If not, that was the best way to realign it when you put it back on.

Yes but I couldn't really mark where the hinge bolts to the body, because it got painted.

Default Hood

Would get another person to help, then, tape around the hood before, and lay blankets on both fenders and on front nose areas to prevent chipping any paint. Mount hinges on hood before lifting/ locating on car, then have bolts ready on both sides and one person put bolts in, then person on other side put their bolts in, just finger tight, then carefully lower hood down and see where you're at. Blankets will center hood between fenders and front edge of hood. The front latch pins should also locate at the front firewall end of hood. Then slowly lift hood and snug up bolts on each side hinges. Then lower and see where you're at, fine adjust until you have clearance on all 4 sides of hood, then remove blankets and get the gaps balanced. I have done this method by myself a time or two, but always better to an extra pair of hands & eyes. Have helped a friend that's worked on vettes for years, and he says have the bolts & wrenches ready and mount it. He does it all the time, but I prefer to take precautions if it's my car. Also if any shims were used to replace in same locations and/or to get an even better fit on front edge areas. May be other ideas on how to do it also.
