Default '54 Decklid Pushbutton

I'd like to ask a favor of the 53-55 owners. Can someone tell me how far out the decklid pushbutton sits in front of the chrome bezel in its normal state? Mine sits flush and to get the decklid popped I have to push the button to the point where it goes below the chrome bezel. Needless to say it gets stuck alot. Hard to believe this is correct. Just wondering if I have the correct stem length on my button (which measures about 2-3/16"). Thanks for any help.

I would think that 57 is the same. Here is my 57 button assembly which works fine. It is the same length as yours. I included a picture of the whole assembly in case you have something different going on there.
