Default shifter boot

Can someone tell me if I have to remove the console to replace the shifter boot on my 65?

Yep! Take your time.........No big deal! Clean everything off and repaint while its apart............You might have to repair a few screw holes...maybe not...........Have Fun!

FYI! The console screws furthest up under the Dash can be a pain to reinstall......But you got this!!!

When installing its a good idea to first insert the screws through the plate and the boot before screwing to the console.

As you've already heard, the console does have to come out. In my case, while replacing the corroded PW switch on my 65 396
Roadster, I discovered the PW harness connector to be in bad shape as seen in the first pic alongside the PW harness 'repair piece' so good time to check all you uncover.

Replaced mine last Summer.
Take your time, and be patient.
While the console is out, take the opportunity to check/replace the following:
-ash tray door
-brushed aluminum plate surrounding shifter
-power window switch, if applicable

Note: If you do replace the the ash tray door, make certain you get the thumb latch that is attached with SCREWS as opposed to rivets. Much easier application.

Good luck
