Default Inline fuel filter

Hi all-

I'm wondering if anyone has installed an inline fuel filter on their C2 and where they put it? My gas line is metal up to the carb, so the only way to install one appears to be to cut the line (something I don't want to do!). Are there other options? Or is there a stock one hidden somewhere that I don't see?

Thanks!

There is one in the tank and one in the carb. You don’t need anther one to cause a fire hazard

Default Fuel Filter

Tim,

As is the norm, Nowhere Man is spot on.

To help you a bit more in your understanding of fuel filters, the one you commonly change is behind the screw in adapter where your metal fuel line screws in to the carburetor. Remove your fuel line from the carb and then unscrew the large gold colored fitting and the gold colored sintered metallic fuel filter will be behind that fitting held tight up against it by a large spring. I have attached a picture down below of what I am talking about in case you are a visual type of guy. It looks like a round stone sponge and is located in the upper right corner of the picture. Good Luck with it and I hope this helps. C.J.

And note the orientation of the sintered filter when you remove it - its uni-directional and not reversible...

OK, thanks everyone! I have ordered a couple of filters. Where is the filter for the gas tank? Is that difficult to replace?

Why do you think you need to replace them? Take a good flash light and look into your gas tank. You will be able to see it. I don’t advise to replace either unless you have a problem. You can create more problems then what you think you have now

The "sock" filter in the tank requires no maintenance if its in good shape....the bronze carb filter can be taken out sprayed thoroughly with carb cleamer and reinserted into the carb...

OK, I'll leave the one in the tank alone. When diagnosing fuel issues yesterday, we took the line off of the carb and let the fuel shoot into a clear bottle to make sure the pump was working. There were a good number of particulates in the bottle leading me to believe I should add an inline filter to protect the carb. Since there is one there already, I'll use what's there.

The issue turns out to be the carb, BTW.

Thanks again for the help!

if your getting junk in the fuel I would inspect the tank and line for rust. fuel tanks are cheap and fairly easy to R/R fuel line not so much

The 327 350hp & 365hp had a in line fuel filter that bolts to the intake manifold. You could maybe make it work for you application.

After having dirt problems all last summer I changed the gas tank last fall. The tank looked clean inside until it was removed and rolled around. I was shocked at the amount of sand and black chucks of I don't know what. From what I could see it didn't look rusty inside. I guess just 50 years of gas going though it?
I installed a new tank and blew out the stainless gas lines. I have the sock in the tank, inline filter on the intake manifold and the 2 filters in the carb. At 400 miles I changed inline & carb filters due to dirt. At 800 miles I'm still picking up dirt at the primary carb filter. It's hard to get the dirt out of the system. Don't overlook dirt/rust in tank or lines.

800 miles since the new gas tank & still picking up dirt.

Well I pulled the carb filter and sprayed it off. It didn't look too bad and there were no chunks. I'll do some more looking at the lines and tank to see if they need to be replaced. It's possible the junk was from the hose that was used to collect the gas, or maybe that's just hopeful thinking

Thanks again for the help everyone!
