Default intake manifold

Last wek I posted about restoring my aluminum intake man. After removing it and some light cleaning I decided to at least try to do it my self. Can anybody recommend a cleaning agent that will remove the grime etc. especially around the bolt holes. thanks - george

There are any number of de-greasing products available but before you get to degreasing, try removing the heavier crud by soaking it with mineral spirits (available at paint stores) and brushing it with a nylon brush. The mineral spirits will help break up the crud and wash it away, then the degreaser will work more effectively.

Be careful because some degreasers have corrosive agents!!

Spray on brake cleaner or carb cleaner and a scrub brush and rubber gloves, or buy enough of the clear liquid carb cleaner in cans to be able to partially submerge the manifold in a pan of cleaner and scrub the submerged part.

Simple Green and various brushes, including an old toothbrush, di a great job on mine. You can also get aluminum cleaner - Naval Jelly. Check your local hardware store.

I agree with Chris, nothing works better then plain old Simple Green. Use it a full strength and it gets anything off and won't hurt the finish.
