So graduating from later C3s, where I had no qualms dropping a modern head unit and speakers in there. On Friday I'm going to pick up my first mid-year car, a 66 convertible.
She's almost fully restored, original drivetrain, even the radio works. But an AM/FM going through a single speaker isn't going to cut it. However, I'm not interested in the slightest in taking out the original radio.
basically, I want something in the car, but completely unattached, preferably not even drawing power from the car
Anyone come across a good sound bar that runs on its own battery, maybe tucked down in the convertible top well? Would use my phone for a head unit, linked by Bluetooth.
Here is a company who makes a soundbar for your new 66 and there are several others. Not sure the stock C2 radio will drive the speakers as well as another radio with higher wattage but others will chime in. There has been much discussed on this issue so do an advanced search on speaker upgrades to your C2 and you will get a lot of threads on the subject. I have never heard of a sound bar that runs on batteries but I guess that it is possible. Good Luck with it. C.J.

We love our Bose Bluetooth, rechargeable, portable speakers. Fine for several hour cruise and get used for many other applications. We just set them behind the seat.

It was a Christmas present to me from my wife. I think it is a SoundLink Color II water resistant, All what Bobby said above. All our music is via Bluetooth from our phones. And we use the Bose often on the deck, outside, etc. Not just for the vette. Perfect for us. Frankly it gets used more outside the vette. Our car is a sidepipe car so I'm not trying to have a real high quality audio system. Cheers.
MGDavis where in Florida? I am from Coral Gable Fl. I had the same thought on my 59 Vette of keeping the original Wonderbar radio. I had the radio restored to new condition and is installed and working in my car. So I looked at many different option for sound and settled for the following:
Ultimate Ears (UE) MegaBoom system. I can pair it with my phone via Bluetooth. Also I bought a portable Bluetooth CD player Hott that works great with the UE. The sound is great I am very please with it. Totally portable.
That is the system my grand kids use all the time. So if it is good for them is good for me. I place the MegaBoom and the phone on the space between the two seats. It really is great sound with lots of bass. It is portable and relatively low price.
