blind hole patch
it looks like i have to cut a hole in my body to access a spot to fix inside
my install plan was to cut the hole out and once i repaired inside i was going to use the panel i cut out and try and glass it back in
the more i am watching videos and reading it looks like the better alternative is to making a backer and epoxying it in place (string to pull it in to place)
the one video i watched they shredded glass and resin and basically filled the hole and sanded smooth
is this a better way then trying put the panel i cut out back in
i have tried searching the forum but almost everything i find has access behind the panel to fix it.
hoping that makes some sense
thanks for any advice
thanks Russ

Good luck!

Fiberglass is one of the easiest to work with, most forgiving materials available. If you don’t mind, how big is the hole, where is it located and what are you trying to repair? That will really help to answer your questions. Typically, I would not try to reuse the original panel, but the larger the hole, the more likely you would reuse it.
there was a great thread on here and i have even talked to chip on here about it
below are a couple of pictures from the thread on how the one guy was able to do it, he completed cut the whole bottom half of the car off and i won't lie that scares me.
it's beyond y fibreglass skills at this point.
chip when i talked to him opened up the caps on either end and was able to slide the rockers in. just behind where your feet would be the rockers are tied in with 2 bolts
my plan was to maybe open up the back cap and then cut a large enough hole in the front to access the two rotten bolts and one that was done drill out the rivets to slide the new rocker in and bolt it back up
that would leave me with a large blind hole
the more i keep looking at the job i need to do i am second guessing myself, but i would at-least like to try it
this is the thread i have been staring at for a week https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...acement-2.html
this shows a good cut out of what mickatbp did
his panel he butted up after

if it is 4" or larger, i sure would use the cut out piece, wide v groove both edges, support it from the rear (epoxied in back supports, whatever will work) something to make the piece fit real nice where it is supposed to go. Flat panels are easy to use a back form, curved stuff is much more difficult, esp compound curves, which is why reusing the cut out piece can save some time and aggravation.
