Default Shift linkage

Question, how much play should this clevis have? I get a little less than 1/16" back and forth - too much? Going through the gears seems pretty smooth.

Are you asking about slop in the linkage or movement with one of the gear positions selected or??

A little slop in the linkage where the clevis connects with a pin to the lever .

My transmission is on the bench right now. There seems to be a little less than 1/16 of an inch of slop there. It would be pretty easy to remove the spring clip and see if there is wear on the pin or the Clevis.

Thanks for the reply. I just had the trans rebuilt and I cleaned up and installed the linkage. Didn't see any obvious wear and just wanted to check.

There should be a wave washer there to take up the slack. Check your AIM.

Not sure what year we are talking about but should there also be nylon bushings in the lever hole before putting your linkage in and pinning?
My Hurst shifter uses the nylon bushings my stock 63 shifter does not and those linkage rods look "Hurst-ish" and stock.

However I think the problem with the linkage circled is the slack is created because he is using a Hurst shifter lever type on the side of a transmission and then using a tulip from the standard shifter which has a smaller pin. If he has a spare bushing he can push the nylon/plastic insert into the lever and slide the tulip over the lever and nylon/ plastic insert, (hopefully) then the diameter is reduced to the smaller pin size and the slack is gone.

just a guess

This is from a 66, all stock parts. There is no nylon bushing I am aware of.

So is a 66 linkage made to have two different connectors?
The reason I ask is the 3/4 connector is or rather resembles a Hurst Connector, whereas the small split connector 1/2 is not part of a Hurst.
The small split connector is a connector for my 63 and probably other standard shifters.

I just removed a Hurst shifter from my 63 and without thinking hooked up the split connector s thinking both levers on the side of the tranny were the same
I had alot of slack, then remembered the 63 came with its own levers. I switched them out and had no slack whatsoever.

So the split connector circled is baffling me, is that a stock item perhaps 66s came like that, if so, I learned something today.

Sorry called it a tulip its not.
