I was looking for any help with an issue that just reared it's ugly head in my 63 SW. I was out driving last week and it felt like there was no defined slots for the H pattern. Getting it into reverse was a challenge as well. Made it home and played with it in the driveway and it seemed even worse. I really can't tell where I am in the pattern and now reverse still engages, but it doesn't feel like it is all the way in. (never popped out, just didn't feel right)
I did a search and it sounds like the 63's had issues with the shifter? It's the T-10 and I believe it to be the stock shifter. I couldn't really get a look at it 'cause the pipes were HOT!!!!! So I figured I would throw it out for opinions and suggestions while I am at work and the exhaust is cooling.
Why does everybody want to put a hurst in these old cars. And I know it must be me because just about every old vett I'm purchased has one. And the first thing I do is remove and install an original. The originals are much smaller, fits the transmission bay easier and shifts fine when you rebuild them. Now maybe you can or can not speed shift but I do not care. I do not hot rod my cars. And the design is so simple, anybody can rebuild one.

It is a mystery to me as well. I've removed Hurst shifters from three different cars over the years. two of them Corvettes. Those things are great from drag racing but way too crunchy to suit me on the street.
I did put one in a '70 BB Nova I redid. Two reasons. It was already in the car when I got it and the stock OEM Nova Muncie shifters were junk. Unlike the OEM Corvettes.
The spindly OEM shifter in my '63 is so smooth, you can tickle the lever with one finger and shift gears.
The stock shifter in R66 works just fine after just a disassembly, cleaning, and lube. I wouldn't put a Hurst in it for just a little tighter 2-3 gate that I think they have. I would like to add stops for 2,3, &4, but not necessary.
I had them in a couple of other Corvettes I've had and liked the notchy feel. Just personal preference i guess? I certainly don't beat on or drag race my cars anymore...they are for comfortable cruising only.
Just threw a question out there to explore options.
