If I remember this car correctly, it's an "original" George Barris custom. It's a real 53. Don't remember the SN. It's been a custom since the late 50's. Chuck
for all of you that are looking for a winter project, here's one you could spend a ton buying and a ton changing back to the original. Looks like this lady needs a face lift, tummy tuck and a few other slight modifications.   :seeya
This wasn't a Barris creation according to the text, but it is a Barris look alike. I think it needs a 56 Buick front bumper to make it look right.
I saw this car twice, once at one of the Corvette Museum affairs, and once at Bloomington Gold. It's VERY nicely done. About the only "original" 53 items it retains are the VIN plate and the frame. I thought it was a Barris car, but I read the text and learned it was not. Cost?? Have NO idea, but all 53's are very "hot" now because of the 50th. Anniversary. Chuck
An anachronism, this piece, sure .. Customizing was a pretty big thing back in the late 50's/early 60's time frame and many of those cars just simply disapearred with the passage of time .. Maybe, to it's credit, this example survives to the present day as a "window" of sorts to that long ago era .. Who knows what the owner of this car thought in the way of future value for this '53, before going the custom route, though being "one of 300" might have provided a clue .. ? .. Seems this car did get some acclaim through the years; though maybe not the "movie star" kind of recognition had it been used as a prop, or something .. It's beautiful looking custom, no doubt .. Only trouble with customs is that they are their owner's creation which others might not care to own .. It'll be interesting to see how much this '53 goes for .. How to value it.. ? ..
Current owner only restored this car. It was originally customized many years ago, probably before it was worth anything. Can anybody besides me remember when you could buy them for less than a $1,000?
I have pics from when I looked at this car about 7 or 8 years ago. I almost got it bought, but the guy that owned it then kept changing the price. It was a stripped, wrecked basket case. All I was smart enough to think of was putting it back original. This was a lot cheaper to do and much more unique. Of course everyone isn't going to like it. :chevy

Re: Slightly Customized 53 Vette? (vettes1st)
I've seen this car in person, and really like it. I would love to buy it if I had the $$$$$. I like customs. While I appreciate original cars, going to a show with 200 cars restored exactly the same is     to me. IMHO These cars are just as much a part of Corvette heritage as the originals. I think it will bring at least 100k
