Well, Finally got around to hacking out the old and installing new exhaust pipes.
I decided to go with CCs non-welded system, to allow for fine adjustment after installation. I also went with Magnaflows so the 383 could breathe.
In addition to new pipes and mufflers, I also sent my OEM exhaust manifolds to Randy Brezenski for full porting.
The results are pretty spectacular.
Sounds awesome, and gained a noticeable power bump.
The only issue I ran into, was figuring out which pipe went where (which side). And the tips are not quite on center.
I do have the 63 center exhaust hanger.
Also, the pipes run very close to the case of my 5 speed housing.
Ill likely wrap the pipes beneath the seating area to reduce heat.
Don ..
I'm looking to go with the CC Magnaflow exhaust for my '64 come winter. I was wondering about the exhaust sound level inside the cabin at speed with the Magnaflows.
My car has Turbo mufflers that were installed as replacements when the previous mufflers blew up. With the top up the exhaust sound inside the cabin is very audible. Interestingly, top down the exhaust sound is barely noticeable, unless on the throttle.
How would you rate cabin sound level running with the Magnaflows, car at speed?
Thanks for providing the pics and sound clip.
I feel the same. I listened to someone with a 365 and N11s and thought it sounded great but mine sounds nothing like that, rather tame in fact. It's kind of surprising too as mine is a 500+ hp 406 but I think the cam makes a lot of difference in the sound of the exhaust and I'm running a roller.
Looks like a very clean install.
I just did a new exhaust for my 64 coupe with a 396 blueprint small block with over 510 hp and 538 tq and 700r4 transmission using the megaflow mufflers, i was worried it would be loud or have a drone but its perfect for a hot rod driver!!
I had to have a muffler shop make custome pipes to stradle the large transmission but the end result is what i wanted, I wrapped the pipes to the driveshaft and it cut down on interior heat.
I just ordered a complete welded system for my 63 survivor since the origingal exhaust was looking and sounding bad with pin holes popping thru.
You cant see them in the pics but the 60ish year old 63 only heat shields cleaned up nice too. Took LOTS of rust remover and elbow grease, and a wire wheel, but they look nearly new now.
