[C1] Turn Signal Problem
Looking for a little help from someone who understands electrical circuitry better than me. For some reason, the turn signals on my '54 are both flashing at the same time. Whats odd is that the parking lamps and the tail lights are both functioning correctly (meaning that the left parking lamp and tail light blink when I actuate the turn signal handle down and vice-versa for the right turn signal). Ive checked both the turn signal switch and the flasher and both are operating correctly. Anyone have any thoughts?
Any chance that your indicator lamps are so bright (or a shield missing) that the emitted light is causing the lens on the display to "glow" when either flashes? Anything that shorts the two indicator bulbs together should also short the turn signals together. The voltage for the indicator lamps comes out of the turn signal switch, for the front lamps, any short there should make both sides front signals flash together also. Double check that both front lamps aren't also flashing.
I agree with your response whole heartedly. Any short between the two indicator bulbs should certainly cause both parking lamps to blink at the same time. I've actually pulled both the bulbs out of the speedometer housing and they're both very clearly lighting up at the same time. Strange thing is that one of the bulbs is a little dimmer than the other. Not sure if its going bad or not so I went ahead and ordered two fresh bulbs on the outside chance that maybe a dying bulb has something to do with it (but I sort of doubt it).
That sounds more like a bad ground. You may have voltage feeding the bulbs through the ground. Try running a jumper wire from a frame ground to the casing on the bulb or where it plugs in and see if it clears up the problem.
