My cigarette lighter gets electricity and lights the lighter, but doesn't get through to my Iphone jack unless I hold it at a certain angle and press in. When I let go, it goes off.
Any quick fixes for that?
Thanks.
As you might know the only power is in the center of the barrel in the back. Your charger could be to small for the lighter housing causing it no to be centered when pushed in. The chargers have spring loaded tabs that keep them centered. Maybe yours are loose too. And the lighter is not fused. So be careful
it actually takes two contacts to work. The center one and the one that's on the side that rubs against the side casing for the ground. it's probably not tight enough against the side, where the lighter itself is a complete circle, the iPhone plug is not. I'd first clean up that receptacle, and then you might slightly bend the spring-loaded contact on the side of the iPhone plug to make it bow out a little more to make a tighter contact. Unless that ground on the side of the plug is making good contact it's not going to work
Thanks.
I tried a few Iphone plugs. One worked a little better because the center rod was bigger. Then I tried the navigator's plug and worked fine because the rod and side springs were way larger than the other plugs.
I think the receptacle is just too wide and deep for the Iphone plugs. And yes, I need clean it.
You can clean it with a plumber’s wire brush used to clean copper pipe prior to soldering, just ensure the power is off first!
I cleaned it today using a dremel with a wire brush attachment, and Q-tips [with the power off].
Actually it started out as the picture on the left, and the right is after I cleaned it.
Now it works good with the Iphone plug with the longer center rod.
