That is one cool car. Would love to know what the drivetrain consists of, and I agree with some of our forum members: clean it up, leave the existing patina alone, and get it on the road.

265 V8 cast Sept. 12, 1954 and a four speed.
Previous owner changed out the three speed that was in it because he wanted a four speed. He did not keep the three speed.
I rebuilt the carbs and drove it around the block about 15 years ago. It ran well but I had to change the distributor and wires to get it to run.
The original distributor is also dated '54.

I am surprised it doesn’t have 9 fun valve covers.

I would like to see photo of the top end without the air cleaner on it. First time I saw I immediately went to Noland's book and looked at the motorama car picture. Very neat car to me and I wouldn't change anything but get it spruced up and on the road. Does the hardtop have original looking dated glass and are the rear lower side window to rear window joiner clips full "Y-clips" or more of a "45 degree clip"? Something that early if a real deal would of had the "45 degree clip".

edit: what type of vin does it have?

I just noticed something interesting: The firewall is from a '56 or later car. Hmmmm..... I wonder if this started life as a '56 and received the front and rear fiberglass of a '54. That likely would be an easier conversion than modifying a '54 to accept roll up windows.

Definately not a '56 firewall. It is just like the upper firewall on two other pieces of a "54 that I have.
Did not start out as a '56 either. The interior door structure is close to a '56 but not the same.
The A and B pillars don't look like '54 or '55 or '56.
The doors use '53-'55 front hinges and '56 style (or very close) strikers.

Isn't that a fresh air intake for the heater at the uppermost part of the engine bay photo? My '54 doesn't have that.

Can you post a picture of that area?

That intake looks like it houses 4 two-barrel carburetors. DAMN!. I wonder who made that manifold. They look like Rochester 2GCs. This car is incredible. You have an absolute treasure, Mike. Keep posting away. If you need a three-speed, let me know. I might be able to rustle something up.

I will go out and investigate that area tomorrow. The only thing I have to compare it to is my '55.

No problem. There is only the motor for the heater fan on a production '54. It sure looks like your '54 has a fresh air intake for the heater instead.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that engine had to be in a '55 at one time, since there were "0" V8 '54's from the factory. What is on the pad? Seems like it has to be 1 of the 1st '55 serial #'s. Why do you think it would have finned valve covers at all? All 55 (V8's) were plain chrome, not finned.

Well you learn something new every day!
I never noticed the difference before.
Here is what is in the '54.
What year heater is this?

That heater is similar in appearance to what's in my '60. I assume (but do not know for sure) that '56 Corvettes used something like it.

The heater assembly from 56-62 looks just like his photo except the 56-57 defroster box heat outlet section extended further over the transmission hump. His box is a 58-62 arrangement.

I agree with this. This is correct. Mike you should put your car on a lift and take a closer look to see exactly what body configuration your car is. It is a neat car for sure.
