I have a ‘59. I rebuilt the starter, new solenoid, new battery. Starts great. A week later it’s stone dead, no clicking or cranking. When the key is at the on position I hear a whirring like a small motor (wiper maybe). I tested the battery voltage using a tester, tested the load when trying to start. Everything good there. Lights are bright, interior lights work, horn works. Checked wires, were tight at the starter. I know that the ignition key is the start of the juice, seems like it is not getting anywhere from there.
One day starts perfect, next day dead. HELP please!
Are you saying that something is killing your battery, or that the starter is dead. Does the whirling noise happen when you try to start it? If the starter drive doesn't engage it will make a whirling noise, but it will not drain the battery (if that is what you are saying). Have you check the starter drive gear?
I just had the starter rebuilt, new solenoid, and battery is also new and tested. The whirring noise is the wiper Motor when the key is at the on position. I turn the key to start And nothing.
