Speedometer bouncing
I’ve seen threads about the tach bouncing around and thought “I have that problem.” But I don’t. I went for a drive yesterday and the tach was rock solid,,,, but,,,, my speedometer never settled down I was trying to match speed and rpms to see what transmission I had and it would have been near impossible. At roughly 45 mph steady the needle would bounce 3-4 mph constantly. Going from a light,, 0-45 shifting, it would bounce 10 or more.

Agree. Majority of time bouncing is cable related on both tach and speedometers. It needs lubing or it has just become "limpy". By the way, "limpy" is exactly how the AC Delco Service Bulletin described it and you would want to replace it. On speedometers and the revolution counter tachs (53-58), worm gear wear can contribute to a bouncing needle and ultimately shows up in the meters jumping or completely failing. Read up and don't over lube.

Along with lubing, the cable casing will need to be cleaned out of old built up gunk. I used a stiff wire, pinched a small piece of cloth on to the end. Soaked it with brake cleaner and worked it in and out several times, cleaning the cloth each time. Then lub with the correct speedo stuff.
