Default '64 Door Locks Installation

Good morning,

I am having a bit of trouble figuring out why my '64 Vette door locks will not engage ?
I bought two new RH and LH door lock cylinder rods (which were initially missing) I went to install the drivers side rod and hooked it up to the door lock cylinder.
After the two are linked together, I go to turn the key which turns, however the rod doesn't seem to want to go far enough down (or up) to engage the locking mechanism.

Is there a certain way these needs to be installed ? And, are the door locks universal on either door, or does one specifically go to the Right and Left door ?

I've been messing with this for over an hour, and it completely has me baffled why the lock will not click to lock and unlock the door.

I've attached a photo of my drivers side to show what I've been working on.
You can see the door lock cylinder rod detached from the door lock cylinder.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks much!!

The only thing I could add is to be sure you have all the correct components in right location hooked up correctly. Mine didn't work either but I found after cleaning a lubing everything, they seemed to work smooth as butter.

Yes, Thank you. Couldn't find them in the heap of parts I had lying around, so I have them on order. Just put them in for now till they arrive.

Nowhere Man - Does the hookup look right to you ? Can't seem to figure out why the cylinder rod does not go down far enough to engage the mechanism to lock ... Any idea why that might be happening ? I believe I have the right cylinder rod. Does the placement look okay as well. Because I see two possible holes (shown in my pic) where the rod can link into. Thanks in advance!
