Default Replacing ***** and labels

I have a 1967 BB. Does changing the *****, spacers and labels have any negative effect on NCRS judging? Is it better to keep the originals no matter what the condition (if having the car judged)? Is the same true with an instrument cluster restoration? Here is a picture of mine. Not bad, but the gauge lens is pretty scratched and cloudy. Should I just leave well enough alone? Any tips or tricks to refurbish the labels and ***** myself?

I would leave well enough alone if everything is working. What labels are you talking about

By labels I mean the plastic chrome plated labels for Volume, Tuning, Temperature, Wipers, Lights, etc.

they are opaque plastic that lets light "Shine" through them with a green hue. even on the best day they never where that great. the wiper and lights are part of the I/C that is not painted

Wipers, headlights, ignition, lighter are part of the gauge cluster. They are white paint on the semi-flat black background. They would be restored in a gauge cluster restoration, or you could tackle them individually. The heater, defroster, volume and tuning labels are removeable with clear letters on silver plastic background. They are probably in decent shape but you could easily replace them. Light bulbs behind the dash above the radio illuminate the words at night. Reproductions differ slightly but noticably from originals. For judging purposes I would leave things as they are unless you choose to do a gauge cluster restoration job.

Thanks for all your input. I think I'll just clean everything up myself the best I can and keep all the original parts intact. Might not look the best, but (according to NCRS) will make the car more valuable.

The problem is the slippery slope. One shinny new restored part against aged parts will stand out like a sore thumb then your want to so anther set of parts and more until you pull the body off the frame and it becomes one of the many restored cars out there and looses its appeal of being unrestored
