I never thin Testors paint when repainting emblems. There is no need too. I want it thick to hold up for years. At 66, my hand isn't as steady. So instead of brushes, I now use these hard tipped pointy cotton swabs that are used for automotive touch up paint (and eye liner).
After a wipe down with lacquer thinner over the original paint, I spray a thin coat of gray primer, Then with an Xacto knife, I cut small square blocks of masking tape (for the flag blocks, first covering all of the same colored squares). Finally, I use the fine point of the tip to dap a spot of paint in each uncovered square (in black or white). Then I do the red flag with the flat hard end of the cotton swap that holds more paint. After it dries, I uncover the masked blocks, switch it to the painted blocks, and paint those in the opposite color. Then finally, I run the Xacto knife carefully along the chrome edges of each block, the Fleur de Lis and outside edge off the flag. I'll also dampen a microfiber cloth with a little lacquer thinner and run it across the top chrome surface of the emblem to clean it up.
Amazon sells these fine tip / flat end hard cotton touch up swabs in a box of 80 for $5 with free shipping.
The other brushes below these are fine tipped paint brushes that I just bought on Amazon to use for touch up paint on a couple of very fine scratches. I never use the brush in a bottle of touch-up paint.
So I visited 3 large “hobby” shops yesterday. Two had a mediocre inventory of Testors, not all colors available. One had a large inventory of two other brands and only a few Testors.
You'd be better off checking out the nail colors at the cosmetics counter at a local drug store - they have hundreds of different colors to choose from, and they're all easy-flowing enamel.

I can get a good match for the 66 darker red, but not even close to the earlier orange-red. Sure would appreciate advice as I have some NOS 66 I’ll be selling or painting.
As previously stated, mix a little yellow with the red for a good match to the orange/red emblems.
