Default 283 Valve Seals

Posting for a friend, do these new valve seals replace the umbrella type?

Never ever never use those seals. I ran a shop in the late 70s-80s we used those on race heads because that was about all there was then. I put them on street heads for a co worker and 2 friends engines. All used a quart per 300 miles. My first response was they wouldn't use that much oil with no seal. One engine was a straight six in a pickup for an older guy never saw any abuse. I was following him and every time he shifted there was a good puff of smoke. Not enough where he could see it but I could. I changed out the friends and the coworker changed his and all cleared up immediately. They are just a really bad choice of material for a valve seal. You want the blue or really any color Viton seal which are now readily available. Or you can disregard this info and learn for yourself.

This is the type you want. These are cheapies off of eBay. They work great. Fel Pro makes them in black and brown that I've seen and used in their gasket sets. Did I mention NEVER use teflon seals.

I agree with Robert61. Those seals can not be used on stock valve guides unless you machine them to accept those positive seals.
If the head is stock then just use the o-rings, oil deflectors and umbrella seals.
I wrote an article on changing valve seals that will show the seals.
If you want a copy send me your email address.
