Default Dash wiring

Have a new wiring harness for the dash of my 64. I was wondering if you could install the dash pod wiring and then attach it to the firewall. Did GM actually have a person laying upside down connecting wires................................... .........................

I think you'll find that GM installed most of the items in the dash prior to the installation of the dash assembly into the car. They had unrestricted assess to the back side! All that is then required to install the dash unit into the car is to rivet it on each side at the door, small fiberglass bond at the center section below the radio, and to bolt the assembly to the firewall beneath the windshield. Only a few connections left to make, oil pressure line, electrical connections at the firewall plug, radio antenna, heater control cables, some others that I've failed to mention . . . . .

Once you pull the dash and glove box there's not that much to it.
