My odometer quit working at 40000 miles. Can anyone suggest a good shop to have it repaired? I have it out of the car so I can send just the unit. It is out of a 1965 and trip odometer never worked. Thanks.
I have found in the past that if you spin the speedo with a drill., you can observe what is going on inside the head and follow the connection and see where it 'stops' transferring the rotation. I have found gears that have stripped or moved out of adjustment and don't mesh anymore. There are a bunch of little stuff in there, Trouble is even when you find the issue, you may not be able to get the part to fix it.

I used Corvette Specialties of Md West. They rebuilt my 67 speedo and odo that didn't need any cosmetics done for $227. That was a year ago, works perfect. Can you do it yourself, trust me, no.

Send it off to a qualified shop and pay the price. Most of the mechanical issues can be done by a diy'er if you have fte abilities...but you won't have the equipment to charge the magnet and properly calibrate the instrument. Calibration is the final step and the essence of the final repair.
Located near Pgh. Pa. After tearing it apart and playing around some I think I will send it out to be repaired.
Got any ideas on how to pack. I will probably have to send mine somewhere but with it out of the cluster (like mine will be), there is no protection for the needle or fragile trip.
Not a calibration problem. Gearing at the transmission does that. This apparently is a common problem with these cars so there must be some commonality in what is failing. Probably a gear or two in the head. Not concerned with calibration, only getting the odometer to work.
I had Rick's Restoration in Joppa MD restore mine due to the odometer not working. Ends up being a small stripped gear most of the time. He did a great job.

he made Corvette Specialties famous before he went on his own. But he is the owners son in law
