Default Removing 63 Cookie Sheets???

Hello All - I am wanting to remove my cookie sheets without taking the risk of removing the hood. The lower two speed nuts by the radiator core support are very hard to access. I even removed the hood support rod to try to maximize angle and access, but to no avail. Soooooooo, anyone know of a technique or a tool that could possibly help accomplish this quest??? Thanks!

I have just used a socket and extension (1/4* drive). Are the sheets loose?

Hey Silver837 - I’ve got all the other speed nuts off, but can’t get the angle to loosen the two lowest ones.

You bet, Sir. I very much appreciate your attempt to help. As I noted in your earlier email, you have a 1/4” set. That could be my problem with me attempting removal with a 3/8” drive set. I’m running to Harbor Freight first thing tomorrow morning and get some 1/4” stuff. I post a photo before noon tomorrow, and thanks again for assistance!!! PS - I just saw that you have a Sebring Silver 63 Coupe as well.......COOL!

Well, I didn’t know momma had pre-holiday assignments for today, so it took me awhile to get to Harbor Freight. I was able to set some 1/4” sockets and was successful in removing the lower inside one. I tried a HF version of Frankie’s wheel drivers and also a thin flex-head ratchet, but still the angle is too great to place the socket over the lower outside speed nut....thInking of locating a shallow depth 1/4” drive, 3/8” socket somewhere...I’ll do anything to avoid talking a chance to remove the hood off a car that just returned from 3 years in the paint shop...

Glad to see you are making progress. Is this the first time the sheets have been removed ?
If it is there is an adhesive between them and the hood surface that you will have to overcome.

After repaint, no adhesive. Just trying to close a very small gap at the front by moving the sheet forward as much as possible so that the rear of the sheet drops into the rear recess as much as possible. I had to buy a repop hood since the PO installed a 67 stinger hood.......crazy! I guess the repop may or may not have accurate 63 recesses???

One of those left side front studs should be trimmed off with no nut on it.

Yep, and you and I know why.

To the OP, you might be able to get a better look at that nut on the stud if you take the hood support loose. The hood will stand straight up if someone holds it while you work on the nut.

With a helper holding the upright hood steady, use blue tape along the bracket edges to align the bracket location on the hood. Remove the bolts on the side of the hood you're working on. The other side of the hood stays bolted in place. The idea is to pivot the hood slightly upwards to gain a bit of working room without completely removing the hood.

Thanks Vettesplit 63. I did remove it, but I’m surprised a little effect it had in opening up the work area. I don’t think my previous 63 was this tight??? I bet my best option now is getting someone over here to help do what mrg suggested. Much less risk as compared to removing the entire hood completely. Thanks for the help!

I think that’s a great option in lieu of completely removing the hood. thanks much! I’ll go get a buddy. Lol,
