Default Tire Question?

Hi, I have a 63 that I purchased some Firestone tires from Coker tire and found the overall tire diameter won't allow it to fit in the spare tub. I didn't think it would mater but in doing some more research on their web site I see the US royal tire is about 1" smaller in dia. I wondering if anyone has bought them and do they fit in the spare tub? I should have asked here first before buying the Firestone's but I thought they were made from the original molds and it wouldn't matter. Thanks for any help you can offer. P.S. these are the non radial original style tires for judging purposes.
Thanks,
Dave

There are numerous past threads on spare tires so if you do a search, you’ll get plenty of info quickly 👍🏻

Tires can be shaved to reduce the outside diameter. How much do you need to remove??

Finding a company to do the work is also challenging............but racers and others do it for their cars.

Get a tape measure and measure the ID of the tub. Use masking tape to hold the tape secure during measuring. Then do the tire. Divide both measurements by PI or 3.14 to get the diameters.

Another option is to buy a non-matching spare for the tub. Once yu have the diameters, you can check the tire charts for their sizes to see what fits best. Or buy used tire from someone that will fit.

If the diameter of your tire fits into the tub.....then all you need to worry about is the tire thickness. if tire width is your problem, I purchased (2) two longer forward tub bolts length was, I believe 10.25" on the replacements. I was able to stow my full size new spare with a TTO American Racing wheel with no issues. Reference: 65 Coupe

Note: Just a thought. If your O.D. of the spare is larger that the 4 tires operating on the chassis...and you are running a Posi Rear end. That's not necessarily a good Idea. If all of your tires are the same, which is what I think you have stated, then disregard what I have noted....

Good luck!
