I just had my cluster refurbished and in the process of reinstalling. Everything was going fine until I tried to connect my Speedometer Cable. Here is my problem (see pics). I am able to insert cable (A) into the speedometer (B) hole. I might add that A is stationary and fits on top me B and not inside B. The problem is that I am not able to screw in the cable (C) to the speedometer (D). I can not get the connector (C) to pull close enough to even make contact with the threads on the speedometer (D). Any ideas? I have a 1967.
I don't think that's the case. That round object attached to the cable (A) is stationary and it bumps up to B. Even if I shorten the cable the I will still have the problem of not being able to screw the cable into the speedometer.
Did you replace this cable/housing recently? If you did are you sure you don’t have the trans end at the speedo end? If not did it thread up to the speed head? The square end of the cable should sit down in the end of the cable housing so the end can thread onto the speedo head. It looks to be too long hence my first suggestion.
If the cable is the typical auto parts house replacement that had to be cut to length and melt or crimp the square end on then someone cut the cable too long before putting the end on.

Did this fit before the clust3r was refurbished?
Have you tried disconnecting the cable at the transmission and then attaching to the speedometer? Then reattaching back onto the transmission?
I did not replace the cable. I simply unscrewed the cable when I removed the cluster. After refurbishing I can no longer get the cable screwed into the speedometer. I plan on calling the guy the refurbished to see if he had any idea's/suggestions. Very strange.

Are you saying the small round item that the 'A' arrow is pointing to is supposed to fit inside of the speed head (item B)? If that is the case, then that's a problem because the diameter of A is bigger then the diameter of the hole in B.

Don
No, I have not tried this, but I will. I just assumed that it would simply reconnect. Nothing is ever easy is it

No, A is the shoulder for the end of the drive cable that has the end that goes into the speedo head. That “shoulder” should fit down in the bottom of the threaded collar that in on the end of the cable housing. When the shoulder is seated against the collar the end of the cable should only stick out past the end of the collar about 1/4”—1/2”.
It is possible that the cable on the transmission end has become unseated and the cable on the speedo end has been pushed up too far for the shoulder on the cable to seat making the cable effectively too long in the cable housing. I would check that on the trans end to make sure the cable is seated in the trans speedo input.
First of all thanks for everyone's help. This forum is simply awesome. I did unhook the cable on the transmission and that allowed me to seat the cable at the speedometer end. Finally got it. Thanks guys.
