Default 66 Side Pipe Trim

Since installing side exhaust on my 66 I’ve take the covers and trim off a couple times to make adjustments, etc. It’s always been a terrible pain to get the trim to seat back on correctly. I can never seem to slide it down the channel easily. Is there any secret to this? Thanks in advance.

On mine, I start at one end and walk it along. Dennis

Are you removing a tire/wheel from the end you're starting to slide the trim piece from? Other than that, patience and holding your tongue just right

Thanks for the advice. I’ll try walking it the best I can without removing the tire and wheel. Otherwise that may be in the cards.

That will present a problem. The wheel and tire are in the way of the straight plane the molding needs to be aligned with the side pipe retainer strip. Jack up the car, remove the rear tire, blue tape off the painted area at the front and rear of the retainer strip and slowly slide the molding over the strip from the rear towards the front.

Putting a small washer between the body and the retainer strip at each of the retainer strip mounting screws makes things easier.
