Looking at a 66 BB couple days ago. Has "HI PERF" in raised letters on the engine, passenger side adjacent to bell housing. Numbers on pad are matching. Basically need to know if this is a special motor or normal for that year?
We will need to see more than just a picture of the HI PERF to help you out. Post a picture of the casting number of the block located on the driver's side rear along the top of the bell housing flange. Also the casting month and year located on the passenger side of the block in the middle (upside down) about halfway up between the top edge of the oil pan and the bottom edge of the head. A picture of the stamp pad on the front passenger side of the block would be a nice bonus as well. C.J.
Vettesic - As Rowingone said, you'll find Hi Perf on just about every Bigblock. It was on the 78 vintage 454 that was in my 65 396 Roadster and it's also on the 69 vintage passenger car 2-bolt 427 that's replacing it. How do the other stampings and raised casting marks look on this 66 Bigblock you're checking out?
