Without the original trim tag, the original color is kind of irrelevant.
I have been thinking the same thing throughout this thread. The car will suffer the same lose in value to he purists weather you paint it the original color or leave it red.
The trim tag has zero barring on the car. Only applies to the NCRS type who care about originally. Since the tag is missing who cars what it was
What????? Trim tag has no bearing on the car?? You did not actually say that. Since it has no bearing on the car, would you please send me yours? I'll pay the postage.

does it make it run and drive? does it hold any legal value? when you buy a car does the state ask for the numbers of the tag? car manufactures don't even use them anymore. the tag sole purpose was to tell the body shop what to use to touch it up under warranty. 45 years ago I can bet NO one even looked at it when buying a car let alone knew what the numbers meant
As noted, without the trim tag you should just paint it what you want....unless you can get some other firm documentation of the car specifics via the VIN, it will make no difference in the future what color it is.

Looks like you're having a bad spell of whether out there in Cottonwood.

If you bought it for yourself and to enjoy I don't see the problem here.
Paint it your favourite colour and be HAPPY!
If you bought it to resell it then do your research, although the effort is not worth it because any new owner would be in the same boat as you not knowing for sure.

Sorry Keith but yes they do. Most are in the door jam as a permanent sticker.

THANKS EVERYONE! It will be silver but I first need to attend to a fuel leak from the sending unit. Opened my garage to a find "Lake Petrol" Siphoned what I could waiting for the rest to drain, I heard it best to try to find an original GM unit & O ring. Ill try a couple dealers in the area just in case.. ya never know?..

Don't let it get you down, things happen with old cars and at least it didn't light up. Each thing you repair will be one more item you probably won't have to worry about in the future.
