Im adding electronic ignition to my 64 Corvette, with a 327, also using ballast resistor per coil instructions (crane fireball P S 60 coil).
There are 3 wires out the firewall:
1 is to the positive side of coil and
1 is to the top of the ballast and
1 is to the bottom of the ballast;
The electronic ignition has 2 wires, does one go to the positive side of the coil and one to the negative side of the coil, or does one go the ballast???
There are 3 wires out the firewall: Out of the firewall is a misnomer. You mean out of the wiring harness and you should look at the wiring diagram to understand the source and purpose.
1 is to the positive side of coil and typically black with a pink stripe, the other end goes to the top of the ballast resistor and from there to the starter solenoid.
1 is to the top of the ballast and
1 is to the bottom of the ballast; typically black with a pink stripe goes to the ignition switch.
The electronic ignition has 2 wires, does one go to the positive side of the coil and one to the negative side of the coil, or does one go the ballast??? What do the instructions say? Typically one one lead goes to the coil and the other to ground.
There are 4 variations of points conversions:
Lectric Limited Breakerless SE
Pertronix, !, II and III
(there are others but much less popular).
All have variations in wiring (this assumes a non HEI install) so we have to know which one you have.
