Default Speedometer cable routing path and end for a 63?

I am looking at the firewall of my 63 4 speed non air SWC.
It appears that the speedometer cable went in through the firewall as shown above the clutch rod
However, when I look at the catalogs it shows this hole plugged for my car and it coming in through where the
tach cable was was coming through

I am not using a tach cable so I could use that hole for the speedometer cable

What makes mine weirder is I am using a 69 Muncie which has the cable on the passenger side
So I am wondering how the cable was attached to the body and where

Also,
Will a 69 speedometer cable end match up to the 63 speedometer?
I see some differences in the catalogs as well

Thanks
Glenn in San Diego

63 and 64 Corvette have the cable coming out above the clutch pedal as in your picture. 65 and up they come through the firewall with the tach cable. If you truly have a 69 transmission Speedometer cable comes out the passenger side? The 63 came out the driver side. There is a body clip under the transmission tunnel that holds the cable before it goes into the driver side of the transmission.

OOPS - I got it backward and corrected above
Thanks for catching that
The 69 comes out of the passenger side and needs to be longer
That is why I was wondering if a 69 cable could mate up to a 63 speedometer

You cannot use a 69 cable because where it attaches to the speedometer is a push clip on 69 and it is a threaded end on 63 to 67. You can use the 67 cable which is longer than the 63 64. You will need to cross over or under the transmission. Just make sure you tie the cable up with wire ties if you go under the transmission you don’t want it hanging.

Super helpful
Thanks

I also remember someone selling an extension cable as well
I will try to look for that in my notes as well if the 67 doesn't work

Rummaging through the parts that came with the car I found two look like new cables
One is 71 inches long and one is 78 inches long.
One option I have is to come up from the passenger side attachment along the passenger side
transmission hump, then go up the passenger side firewall and then cross over past the wiper motor
and go in through the grommet on the drivers side of the wiper motor.
Since this grommet is perpendicular to the firewall, the cable is going to be heading straight perpendicular across the back
of the speedometer
So then I have two options
1. try to bend the cable 90 degrees so it can screw in to the back of the speedometer
OR
2. I see in catalogs they have 90 degree transmissions for speedometer cables
Has anyone ever used one of these? will if screw in to the back of the speedometer and
give enough clearance for the cable to miss the other gauges?

Thanks

Don't make this harder than it needs to be- go through the speedometer hole with the long cable, snake it over the top of the transmission, and like the above poster said- tie it off so it wont get too close to your exhaust pipes .
