Default More Frame Questions

Ok, so some of you may have read my last post on my frame I bought. This is a convertible frame and I need to convert it to a coupe frame. So first question is, cut out the middle mount, yes? If they are 1,2,3 1 being at the front 3 at the kick ups, 2 has to go on both sides?

Now for the second part. The rear frame kickup mount, in order for him to have separated it from the body, he cut the bolt.No big deal! So I have two frame mounts where the nut has a piece of bolt in it. It is rusty and I’d rather replace it than try to fix it.

The mount is solid and only needs the square nut needs replaced. Do I have to replace the whole mount? Or can I just buy the square nut and install it? I’m pretty sure I’ve found both on various corvette sites.

Last thing, if anyone has any instructions on replacing the nut or the mounts, post them here. I have a four day weekend coming up and I’d like to move forward on cleaning it and repairing it.

As always, thanks, you guys are awesome!

All frames started out as coupe frames and the frame line at St Louis added the extra mount for convertibles as needed. So yes simply remove the mount under the door sill. When I replaced the body mounts in my Chevelle (same as Vettes) I just made my own square nuts using square steel stock and made my own cages. Very simple. And straight forward.

You can buy the square nut, and cage if necessary, from the Corvette vendors. If you just need the nut you can probably buy them from your local hardware store. 7/16 x 14

I have cut one side of the cage, bent it down, took the rusty nut out and installed the new sq.nut and pushed the cage back up and welded it that worked perfect. It’s not necessary to cut the mount out of the frame that is in the door sill, 63 cp’s used that mount.

Why not leave it? No judge will ever see it and it adds extra support.

Would I need a bushing for it?

Yes, you would need a bushing and possibly shims as well.
